Here is their link: http://nami-pinellas.org/about A new study, published in The Journal of Transitional Psychiatry (5/30/17), finds that 13.6% of boys and 36.1% of girls experience major depression (meeting DSM-V criteria) by the time they reach 17 years old. The gender gap becomes significant starting at the age of 12 and peaks at 15 years old. While depression is more common in adolescent females, the study finds boys show higher levels of aggression and substance abuse. This study is based on data compiled from the annual National Survey of Drug Use and Health who questioned over 100,000 teenagers from 2009-14. Factors assessed were insomnia, irritability, weight gain/loss, feelings of guilt/worthlessness and loss of ability to experience pleasure from normal daily activities.
